Born to Urdon and Ingram Steelsong in Bartertown, Dagmar was quiet and introspective for a Troll youth. This is not to say that he was immune to the teasing of other namegive children, he got into his share of fights, all of which he won. When he came of age he apprinticed to a Dwarven Weaponsmith,Vunar Stonehand, an eldar of the local Forge. He found the work to calming and became quite accomplished at it. As Dagmar grew it became apparant that he was a bit of a runt for a Troll, a fact which proved no small irritation, although even a runt Troll still stands head and shoulders above most residents of Bartertown.

At the age of 15 Dagmar married Ysilla, and 2 years later had twins, a boy named Agnar and a girl named Rena. During this time he became a valued member of Forge and of the local shipyard, using his knowledge of shipcraft to help with many repairs on ships that came in. He also went on local patrols with Bartertown authorities, both on land and in the air, battling raiders and helping locals as he could.
