We, The Unchained, had been summoned to the court for Trejak’s hearing. There was a large number of Throalic citizens in the hall when we arrived. As we entered the hall we were announced. I have been use to people calling Stilicho Lord, Stilicho is use to it too. My heart fluttered when I heard my name called to the court as Thane Ardor Zomay Skram. It was the first time I had heard my title announced. Most of us would be giving testimony so we were shown by an usher to a bench near the front. There were two tables in the front of a large desk. Behind the desk on a pedestal there was a throne for the king.

The Judge was announced and entered. He was an old dwarf with a bald head and white beard that reached the floor. He wore a black robe with the symbol of Thoal on it. He carried the symbols of his office, a wooden gavel and a large book that was titled “The Law”.

Then the trumpets played and the King was announced. Every one rose as the king entered and took his seat on the throne. The King got right to the point and told the judge to get started. An old dwarf representing the kingdom started presenting his case. Several of the slaves were called forward to tell their story of being taken prisoner and stuffed in to a ship run by Trejak.

Several of the lower crew man that turned on Trejak and the Captain testified that Trejak was running a slave ring. These men were granted lesser punishments.

Stilicho was the first of the Unchained called to the stand. He was asked to tell his story of how he was captured by Trejak. Stilicho told his whole story. He kept bringing up Rashamon and how he saved his life. He almost had turned the stand in to a pulpit. If Vridich, Urgral, Damar, and Dremnin had not told me about how he used his powers to talk the crew in to submitting I might not have believed him. Suulin and I had been down in the temple when it happened.

Dagmar was called to the stand to tell his story. Dagmar had a huge presence in the court room, not because he was a troll. Dagmar spoke with a booming voice talking about how Trejak had ambushed his party in the night on the way to fix a mill. The tail of how half of his party was killed for no other purpose than to take the other half as slaves. How he had been chained to a ship that was to ship him off to who knows where.

I was called up to the stand last. I told the story of how I had welcomed Trejak himself in to my camp on my first night out of Barter Town. How I had offered to share my fire and my food with him, but when I handed him a bowl of fish soup he hit me in the head with his club. I talked of the mine Trejac had sold me to and the treatment I received at the hands of the orks. I pulled my shirt off to show the whip scars on my back.

Trejak’s two fancy dressed scholars talked about the laws of the land and what had been said. The older of the scholars talked about how Rashamon was no longer an active passionand that Stilicho had to be mad. How the rest of The Unchained could be touched by his madness. That with that in mind our testimony should be thrown out. The testimony of the crew man they claimed was tainted due to the fact that they were given light punishment. They claimed that these men would say anything to avoid going to the mine. With that they claimed there was no direct evidence that could be traced directly to Trejak.

When the sentence came down all of the slavers were found guilty. The crewman would be put to hard labor in the mines and would be released. The Captain and Trejak’s men would be put to death. Trejak, his sentence shocked the court room. He was to be hung in a crow’s cage in the market for a month and then 2 months of hard labor. Trejak’s scholars smiled. Trejak grinned at The Unchained. I was about to jump up and challenge Trejak but Dagmar flew in to a rage. He declared in front of everyone that he would kill Trejak before he allowed him to hurt anyone again. I thought he was going to kill him right there in the court room. The Unchained got in front of Dagmar to make sure that he did not do anything he could get in trouble for.

The King was obviously not happy at the decision of Trejak being eventually released. A thin smile did cross his face when Dagmar declared his intentions. He made no move to dissuade Dagmar or anyone else from seeking justice outside of the court.

Trejak was taken out of the court room. He was smiling at us as he was being led away. So we were not done dealing with Trejak. By Florannus I will see that man dead.
