We marched back in to the town of Haven, carrying bags of gear and ancient books that we had taken from the underground lair of the Abomination. The group of town’s folk that had been taken over by the Abomination was following us like sheep. They were still dressed in the grey robes of the “Cult of Pain”. Most walked with a lost look on their face, similar to the one on Stilicho’s.
Urgral was leading our group with a spring in his step that I had never seen before. We were all happy to have won the battle but he was almost giddy with joy and pride. Dremnin and Sulinn helped Stilicho walk with one of his arm over their shoulders. The proud warrior still tried to walk tall with his head high, but you could still see the pain in his face. I walked in the back with Vridich, we were keeping an eye on the town folk following us to make sure that they made it back alright. Vridich had a bag full of books over his shoulder. I could not tell if he was smiling about killing the horror or the books.
We walked in to the inn and saw Torgak was there talking to the female dwarf we had sent back earlier. His face lit up with joy when he saw we had returned. He cleared some people out of a couple of table in the middle of the room and ushered us to the seats. We were provided with food and drink and the warmth of the fire to help with the sore muscles we all had. I asked if there was a quester in Haven and Torgak sent his man to get her.
Torgak spoke to the people of the town telling them that he had arranged for us to come to Haven to help them. We had been asked to look in to the deaths and do what we could to stop them. He specifically introduced Urgral and told the town that he was a horror stalker. Torgak then asked us to tell our story of what happened.
As if on cue the unchained looked to Sulinn. She stood and cleared her throat. She spun the tale in a way that made us look almost god like. She never lied about our deads, but he flowery words flattered us.
After the telling of the story Torgak gave each of us a bag of 500 silver. An extra bag went to Sulinn. Torgak told us that he was bestowing on us the title of “Heroes of Haven”. We would always have favorable trade with his shop. That we were allowed to purchase land and that he would hire any one of us if we wished to settle in haven. No one is ready to settle down yet.
Torgak left but there was no way the unchained were going to get to leave the inn. The rest of the villagers were just starting to come in out of the fields and wanted to hear the story and buy us drinks. A few of the crewman showed up and we had them take Stilicho back to the Stag, as he was tired and wanted to lie down. We drank, partied, told stories and danced with the locals late in to the night.
The afternoon when I got out of my rack and made it to the top deck, the boat was still a buzz with the stories of the day before. My friend Korack came to me to hear of how I had finished off the horror with a sound blow from my hammer. The two other T’skrang on the boat, T’hom Kouth Gray and Kang Kouth Kor, came to me and told me that they wished to be my men at arms. I liked the Idea of having men loyal to me as their leader.
The next day when I took Stolod and the trade goods in to Torgak’s shop, I also took T’hom and Kang with me. I greeted Torgak and told him that I would leave him with Stolod to do the trading but I would like to do some serious shopping. Torgak called two store clerks to attend to us.
We went straight to the armor. I found two good suits of chain mail that looked about the right size. The shock on Kang and T’hom’s faces when I told them to try them on for sizing was priceless. The fits were pretty good but an armorer would take the sets in and they could pick them up the next day. Next we headed over to the wapons. I picked out two long single edge sabers that had been forge once. They came with scabbards and shoulder straps. I liked the feel of them. I threw one to each of them. They were amazed. T’hmos said that there was no way that they could afford to pay back the gifts I was giving to them. I said if you are going to serve me you will be well armed, well armored, and well dressed. I took them over to the clothing and they picked out some new work clothes and a set of nice clothing to wear out in the city. I also picked out a nice new red silk shirt for myself to replace the one I ruined in the dungeon. We I headed back to the boat, leaving my men to guard Stolod and the coin he would be bringing back.
That night I was in my hammock sleeping. I awoke to a cracking noise that was out of place. I climbed down and grabbed my hammer. I headed out in to the hall. All was quiet. I went up on deck and called for the captain of the watch. She told me that all had been quiet other that some sounds and flashes of light coming from Parlainth. I watched them for a moment. I had her wake Kang and T’hom to add to the watch. I did not know why but I felt like something was going on. When they were on deck and had their orders I headed back to down below. I walked the entire boat before returning to my room. I started to climb up to my hammock when I heard it again. Being awake I knew the sound came from this room.
I jumped to my chair and unlocked the box that formed the seat. I looked down at the dragon egg. I was sure that there was a crack in the top of it. I ran to get Vridich from the room next door. I burst in to his room and pulled him out of bed (man is he pale, and the tattoos are all over him). I showed him the egg and he looked closely at it. I said that he did not think that it would be long now. I formed a nest on the floor of blankets and took the egg out of the chair. It did not feel hard like a rock any more. It felt squishy and soft. I woke all of the unchained and we sat in our room watching the egg hatch. Finally the dragon popped out of the side. It was a light almost white green color with yellow eyes.
I picked it up and started whipping the goo of off it. It liked that and made a kooing purring noise. Before I was done it snuggled in to my arms and fell asleep, The unchained seemed just as tired and turned in.
Screaming! There is something on my chest screaming. It was the dragon. We decided it that it was hungry. It woke Dremnin, Urgral, and Hanna as well. Vridich showed up a couple of minnuets later as well as Sulinn. Sulinn went up and cut a couple of pounds of fresh beef off the side of meat in the kitchen. I cut it in to slices and feed the dragon. We were all up so we started talking about if we should name the dragon. Sulinn told us that the birth and naming of a dragon is very serious. Dragons will form a conclave at the birth of a dragon, putting all conflicts aside, also that the dragon would be named in 24 hours. I looked and found out that it is a female dragon.
We were going over names that we thought might fit. Vridich mentioned Saryx along with several others. The baby dragon said Saryx. We all stopped and just looked at her. Yes I told her you are Saryx. She seemed happy with the name so it stuck. She then crawled up in to my lap and went to sleep.
