One afternoon when we were done doing our daily air sailing drills I collect Stolod and went to see the local honey collector. We walk to a well-kept long house out about a mile from the village that was spared the fire cannons in the attack. There was a small hanging sign in the shape of a bee hive hanging from a pole at the gate. There were several flower gardens out in the field. Large orange and red flowers spread out across the valley below the house. I did notice that there were no flowers around the house. There was a troll size pair of chairs and a round table under a tree about 50 feet from the door of the house. We went up to the massive dark colored wood door and knocked.
An old grizzled troll with the worst bumpy skin I had seen in the village. He stepped out the door to tower over the two of us. Skram said “hello sir, I am Ardor Zomay Skram and this is my friend Stolod. We are interested in buying some honey and were told to come out and see you.” The troll held out a giant hand and said in a voice that sounded like rock being rubbed together, “I am Stucka the Keeper.” “Let us sit under the tree and discus buisnes.” Stuka headed for the table and chairs.
We sat in the chairs looking down in to the valley. “I have sold most of my honey to the brewery.” Stucka said. “Ohhh”, said Skram. “I’m sorry to hear that, I was hoping to buy quite a bit.” Skram put the bag of silver up on to the table.
Stucka looked down at the bag full of coins and smiled “I said I sold most of it not all of it.”
Skram returned the smile and asked” What are you charging a pound?” Stucka looked down at skram and said”6 silver.” Skram leaned over to Stolod and they whispered amongst themselves. Skram looked back and sais 2 silver.”
Stucka Laughed and said, “Do you have any Idea how hard it is to get honey from giant cave bees?” Skram said, “What?” Stucka pointed down in to the valley, “Can you see the bees flying around from flower to flower down there in the valley.” Skram and Stolod looked down the hill side and realized that they could see the bees flying around at the bottom of the hill. Stucka said, “Those bees are almost a foot long, you can imagine what their stingers look like, so 2 silver is out of the question. I can go 5 silver.” Stolod whispered in to Skram’s ear. Skram looked up at Stucka, “I’m guessing that those stingers are about the size of the Therand swords we faced just the other day, how about four silver.”
Stucka Looked very seriously at Skram,”I will sell it to you at 4 silver if you take 75 bounds.” “Deal” said Skram. Skram handed the bag of silver to Stolod and said, “Count the troll out 300 silver.” “Stucka can you have that delivered to the Dashing Stag? Please.”
Stucka was watching the silver count and shook his head. When he was paid they shook hands and started walking back to town.
There next stop was at a jeweler in town. They walked in to the shop to see items made of bronze, coppe, silver, and even gold. Most were made at troll size, but a few were made for smaller name givers. Skram waled up to the smallest and thinnest troll he had seen in the reach. “Hello I’m Ardor Zomay Skram, we were looking to by several smaller pieces of jewelry to take with us to trade. We were hoping to get pieces made in troll designs and pieces with living crystal.”
The troll put down what he was working on and said, “I’m Garlog and this is my shop.” He showed Skram several cheaper pieces that were cast rings and pendants that were made of copper and bronze. Skram bought about 75 of the cheaper pieces for 100 silver. 5 pieces were purchased for the last 100 silver. 2 bronze with wolf heads biting living crystal for 20 silver. 2 bronze necklaces with chain, the pendants were 3 flowers with living crystal in the center of each flower for 30 silver. The last piece was a chain necklace with living crystal in the center of each link. This was the best piece that they could afford and spent the last 50 silver on it. Garlog was so happy with the 200 silver that he gave Skram a wooden box lined with shaved sheep skin. Garlog placed all the items in the lock box and placed a lock on it and gave it to Skram. The name givers thanked each other for the buisnes and skram and stolod left for the dashing stag.
