Campaign of the Month: September 2013
Dwarf Traveled Scholar Adept
Fafnir is a middle-aged Dwarf sporting a respectable gray beard going to white. Though accustomed to solitary travel and adventure, he prefers his books and scrolls to swinging a sword (though he’s proven quite capable time and again, recently alongside the Unchained).
A stout man with a stout heart, he’s provided patronage to the members of the Unchained, pulling strings to get them an audience with young King Neden where they could spread their fame.
And don’t poke fun at his threadbare sweater! His mother made that sweater from her own beard!
Scribe of The Dashing Stag
Fafnir Gundarson is the descendant of Baelor the Swift, the Dwarf messenger who ran copies of the Book of Tomorrow to as many kaers and citadels across Barsaive as he could manage before Throal closed its great doors.
From an early age, Fafnir thrived on stories from his grandfather Rolf of not only Baelor’s adventures, but of many great pre-Scourge legendary figures. It inspired in Fafnir a lifelong love of learning.
His father Gundar was a reputable and cunning mason, but the tools Fafnir chose for his trade were quill, ink and parchment. And the tales of Baelor never left him. As he explored his ancestor’s motivations, and his involvement in Throalic politics of the time, he found himself fostering a greater patriotism and love for his kingdom, despite all its frailties and infighting. He also found focus for his vision in the Book of Tomorrow – not the many copies distributed across Barsaive, but the original draft. He dreamed often of its great pattern. And something else – a growing dread that if not found, if instead it fell into the wrong hands, it would be used against his people.
Alone, he set out into the wilds searching the long-cold signs of the Book’s pre-Scourge passage.
