After we chased off the espagra we started to look around the ship. It appeared that the only survivor was the troll that had burst out on to the deck during the fight. Dagmar was taller than me but shorter than other trolls. The broken chains still hung from the shackles on his wrists. He was covered in living crystal armor, carried a huge sword and a box of building tools. He told us that the rest of the slaves down under the deck were dead.
We started searching the barge and found a lot of nothing. The captains quarters were ran sacked and there was blood everywhere. Dremnin, Stilicho, and Urgral went out in to the woods tracking the espagra that had took the captain. As I understand they found the ships treasure still clutched in the captains severed hand.
Vridich stayed behind to give Suulin and I much needed first aid. We were both battered and bruised from our fall from the ropes. Suulin already had a bruise all down her right side.
After we collected the treasure we loaded up and went back to the other crashed ship. When we arrived we decided to try and get in to the captains quarters. We had to dig rubble out of the way to get in to the hall that led to the captain’s door. Stilicho went in to some kind of work trance and started tossing massive chunks of stone and timber out of the way. The rest formed a living chain to toss stones over the side of the ship. I climbed to the top of the mast to collect the flag of the ship that had enslaved me.
When we got in to the hall we found the door to the captain’s cabin was wedged closed. Stilicho called for some of the crew to get a log to ram the door. I giggled and said no need. I pulled the hammer off my back. With one sound blow I split the heavy door in two. We pulled the pieces out of the way and made our way in to the room.
I collected the first thing I saw in the room of value. It was a large rug on the floor. It had rich colors and birds in the design. I thought it would go good in the room that the Unchained was setting up on the Dashing Stag as a trophy or meeting room.
The others found a well-made chest filled with silver, gold, and jewels. There was also a large medallion that turned out to be a pattern item. It was given to Vridich so we could find out what it was.
We then dug our way in to the armor. We found six repairable ballista in the back of the room. There were also 8 crates of bolts that we took. We also got a few weapons and a couple suits of leather armor. We could have dug our way in to more rooms but the sun was starting to set. We needed to get out of the range of the espagra before darkness fell over us.
We gave ten percent of the coin and gems to the crew as a bonus. We split the rest by eight; six of the unchained, the Dashing Stag, and our new friend Dagmar.
We had a couple days of easy travel back to Barter Town. On the morning we were pulling in to Barter Town Dremnin was in a particularly good mood. He was humming a tune to himself at the wheel. We pulled in to dock at the sky tower. It always felt good to get back to Barter Town. We dropped the gang plank and started prepping the ship to sit at the dock. Our passenger departed with his grizzly cargo (the three heads of his friends). As he left a beautiful woman came up the gang plank and walked on to the deck of the ship. She seemed to have a golden glow about her and she smelled of sugar cookies. My head filled with thought of things I would like to do with her. Someone called her Veranda, what, wait? Veranda is dead. I looked closer. It looked like Veranda, a really hot Veranda!
I cleared my head and got back in to the conversation. Several people were throwing questions at her. She claimed to not be able to remember the last week and that she just remembers walking back to Barter Town. She did not have any of the gear that we buried her in. Vridich looked at her magically and Urgral looked her over for horror signs or marks, they found nothing. I asked her to perform her skill. She produced a lute and started playing a song. Dremnin said that he had been hearing that song all morning.
After we had asked Veranda a few more questions we decided that we wanted to take her to see a quester. Maybe the passions would have more answers than she did. Veranda declared that she was tired and wanted to go take a nap. I was put on guard duty to make sure that nothing would happen.
We took her to a quester of the slaves. He looked her over and at first said that there was nothing wrong with her. He also said that she was not normal. He also said something that I had noticed; it is hard to think clearly when she is around. Did I mention that she smells like fresh baked sugar cookies?
I’m not sure that the quester helped us at all. We have lots of things on the ship that we need to make sure are protected. We have treasure and seem to keep getting more of it. We have Stilicho, his uncle has already tried to kill him once, and with our fame growing he may hear he has left the safety of the Reach. Vridich is wanted by some super evil nethermancer. This bung hole has sent 3 full ships of men and a horror to try and kill us and take him. The secret of the quest we have been given by the Reach has the power to turn the tide of a war. The Dashing Stag, our ship is our greatest asset. We also have the baby dragon. Who else can say that they have a baby dragon on their ship? This is something in my mind that could not only attract the attention of name givers and other dragons, but also the passions.
Now we have Veranda! This could be some supper rogue spy sent by any one of the horrors we have pissed off in our recent past. It could be a gift from one of the passions that has decided to favor us or her. It could be some mad passion has decided to mess with us. It could be that this nethermancer that keeps trying to kill us has some spell that brought her back from the dead. I don’t kinow but I think we need to figure it out soon. The more I think about it I’m not sure I want her on the boat!
